Handcrafted Charred Ash Wood Design Cutting Board
These cutting boards are handcrafted from solid Estonian ash wood. To achieve their deep, even black color and increase durability, I use the ancient Japanese Yakisugi (Shou Sugi Ban) technique—carefully charring the wood to create a natural protective carbon layer.
Each board is made from a single slab of wood (no glued joints), and features:
- A slightly curved long edge for a sleek look,
- A finger groove on the short side for easy lifting and handling,
- A laser-engraved C12wood brand mark.
Food-Safe Finish & Maintenance-Free Use
The board is finished with a special food-safe oil and wax blend, designed for cutting boards and other kitchen surfaces. This creates a durable water-repellent layer that protects the wood and keeps it looking great.
The board requires no re-oiling or
maintenance over time. Simply rinse with water and dry. (Dishwasher
use is not recommended—it may damage the product.)
Note: The board is not fireproof.
Cutting Marks & Natural Character
Like any wooden cutting board, knife marks will appear over time. Under normal use, these will not penetrate the charred layer. Aggressive sawing or serrated blades may expose the natural wood underneath. A slight soot residue on the knife is possible but completely safe and harmless.
One-of-a-Kind Craftsmanship
Every board is handmade from natural wood, which means no two boards are the same. Variations in color, grain, minor surface cracks, or uneven edges and corners are natural and intentional—not defects. The burning process creates organic textures that make each piece truly unique. The cutting board may slightly warp (up to 1-2 mm).
