Why C12wood?

C12wood is where design meets the essence of life—carbon. In the periodic table, carbon (symbol “C”) is number 12. While it’s less abundant than some other elements, carbon is essential for all life, because carbon is the backbone of all organic molecules—proteins, carbohydrates, DNA—we live in a carbon-based world. As a material, I work with wood, which is also primarily composed of carbon. That connection is the inspiration behind the name: C12wood.

Handmade in Estonia, from Local Wood with a Story

Every C12wood piece is handcrafted in my small workshop in countryside of Estonia. I use mostly locally sourced or reclaimed elm or ash wood, chosen for its strength, workability, and beautiful grain. In many cases, I even know where the tree grew—whether in my own yard or nearby forests. While I may not know the exact story behind every single plank I use, I can say with confidence: it all comes from Estonia.

I believe in sustainable, meaningful design. Frequently I work with reclaimed wood, giving new life to materials like fallen barn beams, old floorboards, or historic tavern rafters - each product tells a story.

Ancient Technology, Modern Function

Lately, I’ve been joking that I’m in my “dark phase.” I specialize in the Yakisugi (Shou Sugi Ban) method—an ancient Japanese wood-burning technique that creates a durable black surface. Combining this time-tested method with modern finishing materials and design, I craft unique functional interior pieces with a bold, timeless look—perfect for rustic homes, minimalist apartments, or anything in between.

Made to Be Used and Loved

Whether you're looking for a unique gift, a statement kitchen piece, or something to elevate your home’s style, I hope you'll find it here. Every item is made with care, using quality materials, and made to be both beautiful and practical.

Designed with Care. Made to Last.

I made my first charred wood cutting boards about four years ago. They’ve been in heavy use in my own kitchen ever since. I also gave them to friends for testing. After four years of rigorous testing (and many shared meals), I can confidently say: they hold their shape and colour incredibly well—they still look great! That durability, paired with thoughtful design, is why I’m excited to now offer my creations to you through this online shop. I truly believe in what I make—and I hope you’ll enjoy using these products just as much as I enjoy crafting them.

Thank you for visiting C12wood!
