Product description
Handcrafted Charred Elm Wood Design Serving Board
This serving board is handmade from solid Estonian elm wood, using the ancient Japanese Yakisugi (Shou Sugi Ban) technique. The traditional burning process creates a strong, charred protective layer on the surface, giving the wood a striking deep black tone and increasing its durability.
Each board is made from a single natural wood disc – no glued or laminated wood is used. The edges are gently curved for an elegant, tactile finish. A C12wood logo is engraved into the board as a mark of authenticity.
Food-Safe Finish & Water-Repellent Surface
Finished with a blend of natural oils and waxes, specifically designed for items in contact with food. The board’s surface is safe, water-resistant, and requires no maintenance over time.
The board can be rinsed by hand under running water, but it should not be washed in a dishwasher, as this could damage the wood.
Note: The board is not fireproof.
Use & Knife Marks
As with any wooden board, knife marks will appear with use. During regular use, the surface charring stays intact. However, aggressive sawing motions or serrated blades may reveal the lighter wood underneath. Sharp blades may also collect a small amount of black residue (soot) on the edge – this is harmless and does not affect the product’s performance or safety.
Natural Variations & Authentic Charm
Each serving board is handcrafted from natural materials, so size, shape, and texture vary – some are rounder, others more oval. Small cracks, surface splits, and uneven edges are natural results of the charring process and not considered defects.
During the first uses, a small amount of soot may come loose from the deeper cracks – this is normal and should stop after the first wash.
